I am the Chairman of the new Veteran's Memorial Park in Blanchard. Follow the link above to watch the conceptual video, print "Honor Brick" and Sponsor forms and read more details about the project.

I consider it a privilege to serve on the Blanchard City Council since I was first elected in August 2012 and I will continue to serve until at least April of 2027. I have previously served as Mayor and Vice Mayor during this time. I have worked hard to provide the citizens with factual information when asked and to be there to answer questions and work on any issue that a citizen needs addressed. Go to the "Contact Me" button above to ask any question you might have or to provide me with your feedback.

In talking with so many of the residents of our community, it is apparent that we must increase and expand our city services. We have been unable to accommodate the needs of many due to our lack of funding. We must build our economic base to supplement our Sales Tax and Use Tax revenue. Attracting new small business and restaurants is the most obvious answer to help fulfill that need. I have been and will continue to work to help build that aspect of our city.

If you are on Facebook, I encourage you to go to my Facebook Page. Look for "Michael Scalf Sr - Mayor" @MichaelScalfSr. There I frequently post activities and events that the city is understaking as well as new projects we are addressing. If you will "LIKE" the page and "FOLLOW" it, you will get priority notification when I post new information there.

We inherited a big challenge that we had to overcome from the early 2000's and before. The perception in the retail world was that "Blanchard did not want any new business." Over the past several years, we have been able to gradually overcome that perception in the business world. We DO want new small businesses and restaurants, while controlling the amount and type of growth Blanchard experiences. Getting the Taco Bell and O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store are a couple of those success stories that we are proud of. Also, I personally began working in January of 2014, to bring a Braums Ice Cream Store and Fresh Food Market to Blanchard. After seven long years of working with four different Vice President's of Real Estate as well as with Drew, they finally purchased and closed on property in Blanchard on April 16, 2021. They completed construction and opened for buisness on October 4, 2022. We also have more restaurants and small businesses that are looking to buy land and build in Blanchard. Stay tuned for new details!

Another question I have been asked numerous times, is my position regarding our local police. I can assure you that our police department is the best that it has been since I moved to Blanchard in 2007. I stand behind them 100%. I have voted and supported every need they have asked for during these years. Also their expansion of department services for community involvement has been fantastic. #backtheblue

TAXES

Oklahoma is the ONLY state in the country where cities are not allowed by state law to receive one penny of funding from residential or business property (ad valorem) tax. All city services are funded exclusively by the sales and use tax collected within the city limits of Blanchard. That is why we must bring new restaurants and new small businesses into Blanchard in order to improve our city services and upgrade and repair our infrastructure of roads, sidewalks, water and sewer.
